Hints & Tips
- Wipe the scanner head before beginning the scan – we supply a special protective cloth.
- We recommend scanning for the maximum of 15 to 20 minutes, keeping the scans small should require less processing resources on your PC.
- If you’re starting your scan outside make sure you are in a feature rich environment and are aware of your starting position or can identify a feature that you can to return later.
- If you’re going to collect multiple scans, it would be best practice to start and stop scans in same location and capture a 15 to 20% overlap which makes merging datasets easier.
- Disconnect battery from datalogger before putting into storage to prevent battery drain.
- ZEB Horizon is flight safe, recommended in hand luggage, you can download the flight safe certificate here.
- Service ZEB Horizon annually
- ZEB Horizon is IP 54 rated, please be mindful of your scanning environment when using the system.
Firmware Check
Make sure you have the most up-to-date firmware running on your ZEB Horizon system. For more information, see: Firmware Download and Installation for the ZEB Horizon
Scanning for the First Time
- Before scanning anything it’s good to plan your route in advance.
- Once your route is planned, open the ZEB Horizon backpack and remove all the contents as per the quick start guide, except the USB stick and battery charger (make sure the battery is charged prior to beginning the scan).
- Before starting your first scan, decide whether you want to wear the datalogger over your shoulder with the shoulder strap provided or keep it in the backpack.
- Place the ZEB Horizon on flat surface where it can remain static, making sure there are plenty of geometric features within a 40m range. If you’re starting your scan outside make sure you are in a feature rich environment and are aware of your starting position so you can return later.
- For your first scan try to keep it small to assess how capturing, processing and analyzing works with your new ZEB Horizon. Please see the quick start guide for more information about LED sequence.
- Return to the start location to end the scan. Once the ZEB Horizon is back at the start location the scan can be ended
- All datasets downloaded from the ZEB Horizon follow the same naming convention year-month-day_hour-minutes-seconds. You can rename the dataset within Hub
- Disconnect battery from datalogger and charge the battery for next scan. Your battery should last 3.5 hours.
