Getting to know you: Dana Perțea

Last Updated on 25th April 2022

Welcome to the first in a series of profiles on the team here at GeoSLAM, where we recognise and celebrate our fabulous members of staff. In our first edition Dana Perțea, discusses her role as client engagement manager.

Following her studies at the Transilvania University of Brașov, Dana discusses how her love for puzzles and jigsaws fuelled a desire for a career in the surveying industry where no two days are ever the same.

What route did you take to get your job at GeoSLAM?

I saw a vacancy for a pre-sales engineer on the website, which I applied for. The team interviewed me and I immediately thought I would fit into the fold, because it was a young, lively and innovative team.

At the interview stage, they were particularly interested in my work experience along with the degree I achieved in land surveying at the Transilvania University, followed by a masters in forestry engineering.

What does your day-to-day job entail?

My role requires me to be the bridge between both the sales and marketing teams at GeoSLAM, and as such, no two days are the same in the office.

I am the first point of contact for understand the customers’ requirement, and I use their feedback to contribute to the marketing team’s understanding of how to put together the collateral information. My role requires me to maintain and improve the CRM database with the sales forecasting month on month, as well as using the resources that my colleagues are creating to support the distributors and channel managers in their earlier sale stage.

What do you enjoy most about working at GeoSLAM?

Ever since I was little, I’ve had a passion for assembling puzzles and jigsaws. Since starting at GeoSLAM, I realise just how much those ‘problem solving, puzzle-like’ skills come into play during my day-to-day role.

While working with a knowledgeable team of professionals is a huge benefit, my favourite aspect of the job is to combine sales and marketing with technical knowledge in the interactions with customers.

What sector do you currently work in and do you have any ambitions to explore other sectors?

I currently work in the sales and marketing team at GeoSLAM. I first discovered surveying technology back in 2009, and after understanding just how beneficial it is to so many sectors and countries across the world, I wanted to make a career out of it.

What industries have you previously worked in?

Before moving to the United Kingdom from Romania, I worked for a surveying company. I had the chance to be a part of three pivotal projects:

  • I participated in creating the updated digital version of the water distribution system in the Alba-Iulia region, a very important historical region. The project required field work for data collection as well as the conversion of this data to digital form.
  • I worked on a project which involved updating the buildings in Bucharest, transposing urban regulation in digital form and creating the updated topographic support to achieve the new urban plan of Bucharest.
  • I worked on the Land Use Cover Area Statistical Survey (LUCAS) project which is part of the wider Eurostat programme. This project involved teams of two collecting data on land use all over Romania. After the data was collected over seven months, the results were then transposed into a GIS map. I travelled all over the country, visiting historical cities, navigating dense forests, climbing mountains and bumping into the occasional wild bear!

What is your best achievement, personally or professionally to date?

A big personal achievement was moving country and adapting very quickly to the UK culture and customs. Professionally, my biggest achievement is the big upgrade from working with the traditional topographical instruments to contributing to the launching and use of the latest LiDAR technology in the world.

If you’ve got a passion, interest or experience that you think fits the bill and would like to join the GeoSLAM team, check out our current vacancies. We look forward to getting to know you too!
